2025 ByAnnie SewPINK Blog Hop – Making The Zip It Up 2.0

Bags, Tutorials - Oct. 19, 2025 - Jess

It's that time again.... Let's raise awareness for breast cancer research with the #SewPink Initiative!

I'm once again joining in on the ByAnnie Blog Hop and making a beautiful bag to help bring awareness to the prevalence of breast cancer among both women and men.

The #SewPink Initiative's mission is to raise awareness for cancer throughout the year.

Efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month to promote self-care, awareness, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer.

Tutorials - Jul. 03, 2022 - Jessica OklaRoots

Wow! This first mystery box was such an incredible learning experience! We spent months curating these items (in a difficult environment due to shipping and manufacturing delays) and it just turned out so great. This box included some of my favorite and most used tools, as well as fun material and extras to make the crafty process more fun. Below is a list of the items included. Some of these are completely exclusive to the box, but most are available from various retail stores. We'll also have some other versions of these items coming soon to Shop OklaRoots!

OklaRoots Family Rum Ball Recipe

Tutorials - Dec. 23, 2021 - Jessica OklaRoots

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope this time of year is bringing you some extra love and moments of peace. One of my favorite activities during the holidays, like most of you, is to make Christmas cookies! Now, I'm especially lucky, because not only do we bake some wonderful traditional American cookies, but we also make cookies from my Mother's childhood. My mom, Babi, immigrated to America when she was 12 years old with her mother, we call her Nana, from Czechoslovakia. They have some of the most incredible, and sometimes tragic, stories from their lives.  And when we spend time baking and cooking together, I get to hear a lot of them. It's a magical time to spend with my closest family members and to learn about them in a way that makes me feel like we've lived in two different worlds. I hope you get to experience the same. Either with your family, strangers, or even through videos like this.

After many requests, I purchased the most popular beginner embroidery machine. This Brother PE 800 can do so many projects, and will continue to be a craft room staple if you upgrade to a bigger machine.

Kendra Scott Bracelet Dupe

Tutorials - May. 06, 2020 - Jessica OklaRoots

So I've been drooling over this colorful beaded bracelet from Kendra Scott for months (sad story: the bracelet is now out of stock). But it was $68, and to me, that is a lot of money for a bracelet! I just couldn't pull the trigger.

So instead, I decided to see if I could make a copy cat version of it myself! And I did!

But we’re getting back to quilting, baby! Woo!

This has been a topic of conversation in my DMs for over a year now, and I miss quilting with you all so much. We’re tip toeing back into it, so I’m trying some new-to-me techniques before we dive into the next quilt along.

I’ve tried Foundation Paper Piecing a couple times, and completely failed at it. I don’t know why I just couldn’t wrap my head around this method. I’m still by no means an expert, but I made this adorable Hopeful Rabbit quilt block from Snuggle Puzzle Quilt Co and it actually turned out! This is so exciting!

Follow along in this week’s YouTube tutorial to see how it came together. And yes… I’m totally hooked. There will be more FPP to come!

There’s something about the end of winter that rea There’s something about the end of winter that really messes with my feelings. As I look toward spring I get this intense wave of inspiration and excitement, but also feel overwhelmed and lacking. I see artists and business owners showcasing their vibrant new projects. There’s so much color and soothing pastels and brilliant ideas, and I LOVE it but also feel like maybe I’m not keeping up. I fill this notebook with ideas for projects, but then get irritated that there’s no time to get them to fruition.

And the thing is, I AM doing a lot. I know I am. I’m working tirelessly on my own projects that won’t be seen for weeks, months, or even a year. And I know when these projects can be shared, it will THEN look like I’m doing so much.

So if you’re feeling similar, just know you’re not alone. Sometimes the work takes awhile to pay off. Sometimes the work is never seen, but still necessary. We all feel like maybe we should be doing a little more, from time to time. Be proud of what you’ve already accomplished. It’s significant.

But my quirks are your gain! Because when I update and modify a design, all previous purchases of that pattern get the update for free 😱

This update to the Totes Cute Tote pattern includes instructions for modifying the handles and adding a lining. It’s a more professional look to a very simple bag.

And I have ooooooone more idea for those handles 🤔 Stay tuned!
