Jess!
For those of you who have been here for a few year For those of you who have been here for a few years, I can actually hear your eyes rolling right now 😂.
•
This is a quilt block, #schnauzersintrousers , that I designed almost 5 years ago. And I’ve been promising to release the pattern every year since then!
•
Here’s the thing: every time I make the block, I find a better way to put it together. Which means recalculating fabric requirements. And if you haven’t noticed from my frantic stories, I’m not the best at time management. So I work on this a bit, jot down some reminders for when I finally write the pattern, and then get distracted by something else. I actually keep these hanging in my studio, to remind me every day!
•
That being said, I’m hoping (again) to have this pattern written soon 😬. Would you like it to be for a whole quilt? Or just the block?

I’m always so nervous trying a pattern for the f I’m always so nervous trying a pattern for the first time. Which is becoming comical, because I do it EVERY SINGLE WEEK 😂. But it’s still nerve wrecking not knowing if it will look good, wear well, or even turn out at all.
•
I’m not done with this one yet, but I’m pushing to the finish line and ::think:: it’s going to be stunning. Cross your fingers for me!
•
And in case you’re wondering, I’ve had many bags not work out (even recently). Never because of a bad pattern or impossible instructions, always because my bag making ability is not yet at the necessary level for that make. I have bins of unfinished bags that I hope to come back to after more experience 😉.

I wish I was a bag maker when I was in college. I I wish I was a bag maker when I was in college. I would have loved these little backpacks for class! Instead I opted for the shoulder killing messenger bag (that wasn’t even cute 😒).
•
Today’s tutorial is going through every step to make the Meraki Backpack from @bagstockdesigns ! I love how Namrata comes up with these unique and clean designs, but keeps use and practicality at the heart of the pattern. It’s a bag you’ll have fun making, want to show off everywhere, and actually use all the time.
•
Have you made this one??? Let me know and tag me if you have!

I love unboxing videos! It’s always fun to try and figure out what everything is and how it works. Should we have sat with a coffee, and read all the instructions before filming? Probably. But it’s just more fun to figure it out on the fly 😂.
•
Babi (my mom) joined me on this video today and we had a blast getting to know the 15”x15” heat press from @ricomahq !
•
Warning: we did not read the instructions first. This may be painful for some of you to watch. But nobody was harmed in the making of this video 😍.

Kitchen update will come soon! I have a second day of priming footage 🤷‍♀️ but no painting videos (Derek stepped in and knocked that out while I caught up on work 🥰).
•
Luckily I have 16836792156 more cabinets to paint, so I can share that step soon!

I hope you’re having a great week so far!

It’s Month 3 of the @cotton_cuts Spring Sparkle It’s Month 3 of the @cotton_cuts Spring Sparkle and Shine Mystery Quilt! Whether you’re making the large or small, this month comes together quick and is fun to make!
•
Let me know how your blocks are coming, if you’re participating! I love working on a quilt block each month. It really helps me take a break from bag making when I’m feeling a bit burnt out. And not having to worry about getting it all done in a week is great!

3 years ago today I opened Shop OklaRoots for the 3 years ago today I opened Shop OklaRoots for the first time, selling the first quilt pattern I wrote. It was so excited and I made 3 sales that day! Which made me feel like a million bucks, completely on top of the world.
•
But trying to run a business, no matter how small, is incredibly tough. And 2 years ago I shut down my online shop. Over 1 year I made 10 sales. That could be looked at as a success or failure, depending on your perspective. But it was too costly for me to keep it running.
•
Although I was broken hearted when I removed my shop, what happened next made it all worth it. As I considered selling all my fabric and machines and just quit sewing altogether, I decided to try a couple bags. Modifications that I wanted to share to a fanny pack pattern led to me starting a YouTube channel.
•
And now, 1 year later, I get to celebrate my online shop that I saw as a failure for so long. It’s just incredible how things happen, how we don’t understand why at the time but those pivots bring us to bigger opportunities.
•
Thank you everyone for your support! Whether you’ve been here for 5 years or 1 day, it’s pretty incredible to be a part of this community. And thank you again for the beautiful Birthday wishes!
•
This photo was taken April 2nd 2018 and it was my first quilt pattern. I’m thinking of adding the patterns back in shopOklaRoots (what a feeling) but it will be awhile before I can put together video tutorials for them.

These sewing machines are such adorable additions These sewing machines are such adorable additions to the notebooks! What a cute way to store sewing notes and pattern tips ☺️.
•
Thank you so much to those of you who suggested these! I’ve received many messages asking to set these specifically to the side, so we made a few extra.
•
The sewing machine pattern is from Embroidery Library and the notebook In The Hoop project is a modified version of the Twitter Pages pattern from Sew Inspired by Bonnie 🥰.

I’m not always able to put my tag or logo on the things I make, but it sure feels good when I find a way. It makes me happy to think these pups are going to be a part of something that makes others happy, because they sure brought a lot of joy my way.

PS - this was achieved with a heat gun and mold of my logo. Very faint on my items, but it’s there 😉.
