2024 ByAnnie #SewPink Breast Cancer Awareness

Tutorials - Oct. 29, 2024 - Jessica OklaRoots

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the ByAnnie #SewPink Blog Hop again! It’s such a special event they put together throughout the entire month of October for breast cancer awareness, that’s both inspiring and charitable. For more information on this initiative, check out the information below:

The #SewPink Initiative was created by ByAnnie.com LLC to raise awareness for breast cancer throughout the year. Efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month to promote self-care, awareness, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer. To learn more and see the calendar of events visit: https://www.ByAnnie.com/SewPINKTo find screenings available near you:

What I’m Making For The Blog Hop

For my project in this Blog Hop, I decided to try out a ByAnnie pattern that I’ve been eyeballing for months! The Hot and Heavy bag is such an adorable shape, with multiple uses. Intended to carry your iron, you could also use this as a travel bag, craft bag, or every day bag. I decided to use a monochromatic nylon material with pops of color, and then splashed pink all over the bag to tie it in with the #SewPink Blog Hop. I love how it turned out! For a full tutorial on how I made this bag, and tips for sewing nylon as well as how I used ByAnnie’s elastic for the binding, check out the YouTube Video.

The nylon exterior, water resistant canvas interior, seatbelt webbing straps and elastic binding made this bag quick to put together, but also ensure that it will be durable and last for years to come. And it’s CUTE!

Happy Sewing!

We’ll try to do a live on YouTube later this week 🤞

We loved visiting these fabric stores while on our We loved visiting these fabric stores while on our summer UK trip!

Started at Misan (@misanretail ) in London, which had some of the most gorgeous apparel fabric! They had all things pretty, sparkly and unique. They also had a great selection of tweeds and leathers (which I stocked up on).

Next we visited Borovick Fabrics (@borovickfabricslondon ) and snagged even more material! Make sure to explore the entire space for some really stunning and original fabrics.

Of course we had to stop by MacCulloch and Wallis (@maccullochw ) and check out all the haberdashery! They had plenty of material and sewing tools, but also tons of yarn and other craft supplies. Mila did quite a bit of shopping here.

Then we ventured to Edinburgh Castle (@edinburghcastle ) and actually found a large assortment of tweed materials in a gift shop! I’m still kicking myself for not purchasing anything.

We wrapped up our fabric shop tour at Edinburgh Fabrics (@edinburghfabrics ) which not only offered all the materials you would come to expect, but they also had a huge selection of tweed AND Liberty of London lawns! The dream!!

Can’t wait to go back and find even more stores!

Block 2 is done! Love that we’re starting to work Block 2 is done! Love that we’re starting to work on some diagonal cuts now.

Those triangle bits used to be such a struggle for me. Knowing how to line it up so it completely covers the area can be challenging. My method is to draw the diagonal line on the fabric, just as I want the stitches to be in the end. Then flip it upside down and line it up with the stitch line on the paper. And bam! Perfect fit with less waste 💪❤️.

I’m not here to tell you what you need and don’t n I’m not here to tell you what you need and don’t need in life. But as a bag maker, I would say the AnnaBelle Shoulder Bag pattern from @siahswagbags is a Bag Making 101 essential. The shape is gorgeous, you can have lots of fun with modifications, and the look of this bag can be SO different depending on the material. The structure is fantastic (LOVE the foam sandwich method) and overall it’s a fun way to spend time sewing. 10/10 no notes!

Enjoy!
