OklaRoots First Block Party!!

Block Party - Feb. 18, 2020 - Jessica OklaRoots

Are you ready to make a quilt??? Don't worry, we'll work on it slowly over the course of 12+ months, just 3 blocks a month, and in the end you'll have a snuggly time capsule representing a year of your life!

If you're new here, you should know I'm much better at videos than blog posts, so I'll keep this short and sweet. First, check out the video below for an overview of how this will work:

All of the patterns, SVG files and videos will be available in the Block Party section of the Pattern Vault, on the first Monday of every month.

Below are some tools you'll see me use in the videos. I'll be cutting my material using both a Cricut Maker and paper templates, either can be used.

Cricut Maker Machine

Don't forget to post your blocks on social media, and include #OklaRootsBlockParty so we can inspire one another! This is going to be a fun year, and our community is one of the best to be a part of. If you haven't already joined the OklaRoots Creatives Facebook group, then come on over!

Happy Sewing!

I’m so looking forward to making these squares, I’ve got so much fabric and can’t wait to turn it into a quilt for my daughter. Can u use different types of fabrics like outdoor and quilting together?

I’m so happy to hear you’re excited! You can mix the different fabrics. Heavy weight fabric is a bit harder to use on quilt blocks that have small cuts, so if you do that use them for the larger cuts of the block.

I have never participated in a block sew along but you have me excited to participate! I am a garment and bag sewer mostly. Quilting has always seemed so large and consuming-this is just what I am looking for-slow and steady and someone walking with me! I love your content (I followed you first via Youtube) – and really am super excited to go on this journey with Oklaroots this year!

Hi! I am spool excited to join the Block Party. I have only made a baby quilt before now. I have never made a full size quilt. I am super duper excited about this. One, two, three let’s go get started.🤗💕💕💕💕

Love this idea. I’m using leftovers and having some fun! I think I’m going to finish this as a shadow quilt. Donna Jordan has a video and free pattern for this. I think it’ll be really cute and with my calculations will be about 80 x 80. Thanks for doing this!

Great idea, this quilt along. How much material is needed for each block. I’ve never made a quilt so have no scrap material. I want to know how much to purchase.

    Thank you,
    Crystal

    I love your videos!
One of the few benefits of being inside all the time….I have time to search for great channels- like yours!
The fabric you said you used for masks…it looks like a storm trooper…what is the name of it?

I was suggested this web site by my cousin. I’m not sure whether this post is
written by him as nobody else know such detailed about my difficulty.
    You’re amazing! Thanks!

Do you recommend making the second block the same as the first or can it be different?
